Week 33 Deep Pantry / Food Storage Challenge

“A prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. Proverbs 27:12

Remember having a deep pantry isn’t just about having extra food on hand. It is also about having the means to survive in an emergency situation, having all the extra food isn’t going to do you much good if you can’t cook it when the power is out. If you are having a hard time trying to afford filling a deep pantry read my post on “having a Deep Pantry on a tight budget.

Don’t forget to share what you were able to do this past week to have a deep pantry/food storage. Let’s encourage each other. And if you have a question feel free to ask or if you have the answer to a question feel free to answer. If you have a tip or idea you can share that also. As I said let’s make this a place where we can share and encourage others to get that deep pantry.

2 Gallons Vinegar / Canning Supplies

2 Gallons Vinegar, Walmart has white vinegar for 2.48 a gallon. You can make apple cider or fruit vinegar’s yourself for cooking and cleaning with. If you are using it for canning you want to use store bought so you get the right acidity.

Canning supplies, If you can (A very good thing to know how to do even if you don’t use it much right now) stock up on extra jars and lids.

Ya-all knew I’d be here with my 2¢ worth, right?
I 100% agree on the vinegar storage, keep it cool and out of the sun, should last for 2-3 Canning Seasons, and use the older stuff for cleaning and such. FYI, vinegar will remove the spots off windows and the calcium buildup on Glass and Pans.
Also stock up on Apple Vinegar for cooking, and some caning, Home Canned Pickles, can you say OMG good stuff?
One last, Unfiltered Raw Apple Vinegar, very VERY healthy for you, a tablespoon full a day is GOOD FOR YA! I like the Bragg Organic Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar, not a bad taste and sooooo goooood on a sliced homegrown Tomato, I’m hungry now HAHAHA

Canning supplies, LIDS!!!! Lots of lids, get them at Wally World when on sale, yes the newer ones are not as good as years past, there is a LOT of controversy on the change that Ball did on their lids, but they WILL stay sealed for many years.
PS; A lot of people I know don’t “can”, the same people that eat at McDonald’s 6 times a week. I just shake my head and tell em to get a life.

FYI, been some discussion on another BLOG about the cost of Beef, Hay and other stuff, anyone seen a HUGE increase in pricing of foods?

      NRP,
Always like your 2 cents worth haha.A very good point about the lids one of those things you can’t have to many of also a good idea to have some tattler ( reusable lids) lids on hand.
Can’t even imagine eating at Mc Donalds once a week much less 5 or 6 and I also know people who do that and throw in a day or two of taco bell.speaking of rising prices someone made a comment to me the other day about how expensive it was to eat at Mc Donalds and taco bell.
