300 a Month, Goals and Menu

It’s looking a little rainy here they are saying we should get some rain for the next few days really hoping so.

I have learned one thing this week, that I really don’t bounce back after a fall like I did when I was 10 and 20 haha. I tripped on the doormat coming into the house ( I know miss graceful haha). Well to avoid hitting the center of my forehead on the door frame I twisted so I got the side of my face pretty good ( wasn’t to sure I had an ear left for a few minutes haha) I also muffed up my knee that I am already  having issues with and pretty sure every inch of my body hurt. Took a few days to feel a little better probaly got over it pretty quick because I had so much to do I didn’t get to set around and baby it( not going to lie I wanted to though).

Well, the last couple weeks have been pretty busy ( is it ever going to slow down? ). The weekend before last we cleaned out one of the sheds the dang mice had gotten into it so that was a lot of fun :(. Ended up having to throw away a lot of stuff.  When I first started putting stuff into it, it didn’t have mice so I didn’t put into tubs like I should have so they had a field day (or year I should say) in there. but it is all cleaned out and everything that needs to be in tubs is. I also got one of the spare rooms cleaned out and organized.
Went and picked about 3 bushels of apples from a friends house, I can’t believe how well all the fruit has done this year. Someone said that when the fruit is this good it means we are going to have a pretty rough winter, as bad as I don’t really want one we really need it so I am going to try very hard to not whine if we do have one.

Monday I started canning and Tuesday and Thursday my Aunt came and helped which was great we were able to get pretty much caught up on all the canning so all I have left now to do is apples, pumpkins and a few last minute tomatoes and zucchini.

I was off Friday so I went to town to get all my doing done then Saturday I finished up what canning I was still working on. Then Sunday I got all the fall stuff out and started decorating ( I really like to have this done by the middle of September but running a little late this year). We went ahead and put up the camp stove and table we had outside for canning figured since it is supposed to rain I wouldn’t be able to use it anyway and maybe I am caught up enough to finish everything up in the house. That way I can also get the outside decorated.
Sunday afternoon we went to my nephews 15th Birthday dinner seems like yesterday he was born now he was talking about prom that he went to the night before. After that we had a cow to bred for the neighbors up the road they are the ones that have a dairy and I get my milk from.
 300 a month
Well, I did do a little better this week haha. I bought some bread ( not going to have time to make it),# 10 sized tomato sauce and whole tomatoes that were on clearance, sure jell, pumpkins, cheese, lettuce, mushrooms, cabbage, ice cream, vinegar, tea, bananas, corn tortillas ( once again not going to have time to make them), rice, sugar, Worchester sauce and a frozen pizza. I think that was all.

So I have spent 98.42  add that to the previous total of 1802.93 for the year. ( Next week I will start doing the monthly totals). for a total of 1901.35 spent for the year which leaves me with  1698.65 for the year. I do have to say not having any money this summer has sure helped my totals since I didn’t have much to spend but that means when the sales come out I will have to spend more than to add back to, my pantry.

What I did to save money this week,
  • Hung clothes out to dry
  • a couple dozen eggs from the chickens
  • made butter
  • picked apples from a friends
  • harvested tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers,& bell peppers from the garden
  • did a whole lot of canning

    Rancher’s Wife;
A hint on the mice, Urinal Cakes, yeppers those hard looking pink things lying in the Men’s Restrooms in the Urinals.
Now before you go Ok NRP has gone off the nut hear me out.
Those things are made of the same thing as Moth Balls. Only they are 10 times denser and a LOT bigger.
A short story, I have an older car that sits 95% of the time outside, well it got a nice crop of Tree-Rats that decided to invade the heating compartment. After over $500 and having a mechanic tear the car apart from the steering wheel to the engine apart, he retrieve 2 full 30 gallon bags of “stuff” from the invasion.
Someone laughed at me and told me about Urinal Cakes now let me tell you THEY WORK!
I set one in an old tuna fish can under the car and have nada a bit of problems since.
And yes they work in sheds, Garages, Barns and even in Chicken Coops. Have a friend with Chickens, and had a mouse problem (as most do) with mice in the feed and under the coop, Not any more.
Ya can get them at most Janitorial Stores, give them a try.
