MYO Saltine Crackers

These are pretty easy to make and soo.. good, they taste just like store-bought, but without all the added extra stuff. Plus one more thing you don’t have to worry about storing. You can use a mixer or food processor to make these. After you make these you will never want store bought again.

Start by putting

2 cups Flour
1 Tablespoon yeast
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon sugar
2 tablespoons shortening or lard

in a mixing bowl (or food processor)

Mix until the shortening is well blended in. Add 2/3 cup hot water (120 to 130 degrees) add water a little at a time until

you have a workable dough. Knead about 4 minutes with the dough hook.

Put dough on a lightly floured surface form into a ball
place in a lightly greased bowl cover and let rest for about 30 minutes
Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead a few times then make a ball and cut into quarters
Roll dough out, I use a pasta maker to roll mine out but I have used a rolling pin.
It needs to be pretty thin 1/16 of an inch.
I put the rolled out dough on the counter and sprinkle salt on them pat the salt down so it stays on the dough.
I put the dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet before I cut it makes it easier. A pizza cutter is great to cut them with. After you cut take a fork and prick the crackers. You can make them whatever size you want.
Put in a 375 oven for about 7 minutes until golden brown.
This makes a lot of crackers. Just put into a ziplock bag to keep fresh.

    Crazy NRP here;
I’ve been making crackers for years and years, pretty much as you do.
I suggest after you master the art, start to add a small amount of Herbs or Spices (I personally like Cilantro or a touch of Thai Basil).
Talk about yummmmm, eat with a bowl of homemade soup, and there ya go

    No wonder I’m fat… HAHAHAHA

I have been wanting to try some different herbs and spices just haven’t done it. May have to make a point to next time.I figure that is why I have my extra weight making everything from scratch just means you have to eat it hahaha.
Hope you are having a great day.
