Week 30 Deep Pantry / Food Storage Challenge

Print Friendly, PDF & Email
“A prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. Proverbs 27:12

A deep pantry a good thing to have.

Remember having a deep pantry isn’t just about having extra food on hand. It is also about having the means to survive in an emergency situation, having all the extra food isn’t going to do you much good if you can’t cook it when the power is out. If you are having a hard time trying to afford filling a deep pantry read my post on “having a Deep Pantry on a tight budget.

Don’t forget to share what you were able to do this past week to have a deep pantry/food storage. Let’s encourage each other. And if you have a question feel free to ask or if you have the answer to a question feel free to answer. If you have a tip or idea you can share that also. As I said let’s make this a place where we can share and encourage others to get that deep pantry.

20 Pounds rice / School Supplies

20 pounds rice

20 Pounds of rice, Wal-Mart has rice for 8.92 for 20 LBS. When storing I just put in a bucket and add some bay leaves then put the lid on and store in my shed. We do get hard freezes in the winter so the rice gets froze to kill all the bugs. You might want to put in the freezer for 24 hours before you put in buckets if you don’t get hard freezes or it won’t be stored where it will freeze. Also adding a couple bay leaves will help deter bugs.

School supplies,

Even if you don’t have kids in school now is the time to get extra paper, pens, pencils, tape, glue, ect. While they are all on sale for back to school.

Have you been able to find extra kids clothes? If you sew or crochet or knit you might also want to put back patterns for children’s clothes

Are you getting information off the computer? Remember to organize it as you take it off then you know where it is when you need it.

Put back more water and add a little more to your money stash.

Hope you have a great week.

    Welcome back Rancher’s Wife
    A suggestion, there’s a surprise huh?
Freeze that Rice or anything else for more that 24 hours, give it a few days to make sure the “freeze” gets to the center of the bag.
Also make sure it’s completely defrosted before placing in a bucket, you need to make sure the “Frost” is gone, gone, gone.
One last thing, I use Spearmint Gum in lue of Bay-Leaves, does the same thing.

    NRP,
Thanks hopefully I am back for a while I really need things to slow done just a little.
Thanks for the tips, I use a lot of spearmint gum in my flour one thing though you want to make sure and get it out of the flour BEFORE you make bread. Especially if you are making it to give to someone ( don’t ask how I know haha).
P.S. I left you a reply on “where am I”
