Week 31 Deep Pantry / Food Storage Challenge

Print Friendly, PDF & Email
β€œA prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. Proverbs 27:12

Remember having a deep pantry isn’t just about having extra food on hand. It is also about having the means to survive in an emergency situation, having all the extra food isn’t going to do you much good if you can’t cook it when the power is out. If you are having a hard time trying to afford filling a deep pantry read my post onΒ β€œhaving a Deep Pantry on a tight budget.”

Don’t forget to share what you were able to do this past week to have a deep pantry/food storage. Let’s encourage each other. And if you have a question feel free to ask or if you have the answer to a question feel free to answer.Β If you have a tip or idea you can share that also. As I said let’s make this a place where we can share and encourage othersΒ to get that deep pantry.

A deep pantry a good thing to have.

50 LBS Beans / Cornmeal

50 Pounds of beans, Walmart has Pintos for 13.42 for 20 pounds. Get the beans that your family likes to eat. You can get a variety of pintos, kidney, black, butter beans or whatever you like and have easy access to.

Cornmeal I don’t have a price on this. One way to store cornmeal, if you have a corn grinder you can get feed corn or cracked corn just make sure it is straight untreated corn. I have several bags of whole corn and lime so I can make masa for tortillas and I can grind it for cornmeal. If you store corn meal do it like you do the flour, freeze and for at least 72 hours. Nothing better than beans and cornbread HaHa.

The Action item for this month is to learn to make soap,

If you can make soap then you can use it to make laundry, and dish soap. And it is so nice to know you have soap that you know what is in it and you can custom make it if you like lavender you can make lavender or whatever your favorite is.

The Extra item this month isΒ AlternativeΒ clothes washing.

A couple things here, you can get a toilet plunger (new would be bestΒ πŸ™‚Β ) and a 5-gallon bucket. You can also invest in a mop bucket that has the wringer for the mop that you can use to wring out your clothes wringing by hand is not a whole lot of fun. I have seen on the internet little foot-powered washing machines they are a little pricey but they wash rinse and spin.

Add some more water and a little more to your money stash.

Have a great week.

    NRP,
Completly agree on Adobe Mills when I can’t get from the farmer that is where I go. They even carry green chili powder ( which I use a ton of and never seem to have enough even when I dry my own.).
