Our Fire Departments 9/11 Commemorative Stair Climb

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

On 9/11 Our Fire department hosted a stair climb. We had people from the five surrounding Departments. We also had some from the Sheriff’s office and the SW Health EMT’s there were over 40 people who climbed. They were dressed in full bunker gear climbed the equivalent of 110 stories to honor the 412 emergency workers who died that day, including 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, eight EMTs, and a fire patrolman.

A truck from every department

Every one getting ready

Before they got started Dispatch repeated emergency calls for service to the World Trade Center for New York Fire Department units on the day of attacks. Not sure there was a dry eye in the place. It was pretty sobering.

After the page, they started climbing. It was pretty challenging but almost every one of them made the whole climb.

Afterward, we had a BBQ to feed everyone.

Cooking the hamburgers and hotdogs.

It was pretty cool to be able to watch. I love how we are such a small department as are all the other surrounding departments but we always come together whether it be something like this or a mutual aid call. Just one big family that I wouldn’t trade for anything.
