Week 46 Deep Pantry / Food Storage Challenge

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

“A prudent person foresees the danger ahead and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences. Proverbs 27:12

Remember having a deep pantry isn’t just about having extra food on hand. It is also about having the means to survive in an emergency situation, having all the extra food isn’t going to do you much good if you can’t cook it when the power is out. If you are having a hard time trying to afford filling a deep pantry read my post on “having a Deep Pantry on a tight budget.

Don’t forget to share what you were able to do this past week to have a deep pantry/food storage. Let’s encourage each other. And if you have a question feel free to ask or if you have the answer to a question feel free to answer. If you have a tip or idea you can share that also. As I said let’s make this a place where we can share and encourage others to get that deep pantry.

40 Pounds Rice / Nuts

40 pounds rice, Wal-Mart has 20 pounds of rice for 8.13. You can store in Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers in buckets. Or in buckets, I put a couple bay leaves in my buckets of rice to help keep out unwanted critters. I am able to store a lot of things in just buckets because they are stored where they stay frozen all winter, if you don’t get a good freeze then it is best to store things in Mylar bags inside buckets.

Nuts, Store what you like and use, You can store extras to use to make nut butters. store in Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers, canning jars that are vacuumed packed with oxygen absorbers.r in the freezer.

How is your learning to sew coming along? Even if you don’t know someone to teach you, there are a lot of u-tube videos that can get you started. As I mentioned start with an easy pattern, something like pillow cases where it is just straight seams so you can learn the basics then work your way up. If you don’t have a sewing machine try and learn how to sew a little by hand so you can at least mend and sew on buttons.

Have you been able to get some extra fuel put away? Don’t forget to add fuel stabilizer and store in a well ventilated area away from any flames or sparks.

Thank you for some great tips. We have started saving items for an emergency situation as well, but not to the quantity you suggest. A lot to think about. I will have to look back at some of your other posts for more ideas, unless you have a complete list somewhere. Visiting from Tune in Thursday.

      Cheryl,
      Thanks for visiting
It is such a great feeling to have a deep pantry then you don’t have to worry if something unexpected happens such as a natural disaster or job loss happens. I don’t have a full list posted but am wanting to get a whole one put up. I am thinking when I restart this at the first of the year I will do a full list on the sideboard ( it will be a little different next year).

Your pantry is a thing of beauty! My dream . . . My house is small wth no pantry, basement or laundry room. Mid-80’s box it is. Still I am prepared if a natural disaster strikes, provided I am at home and not at work. Fingers crossed for the pets! Hopefully in retirement I can have a house with a pantry as beautiful as yours with earthquake protection.
